Welcome to Classic Rock Trivia
This quiz was created in order to test your knowledge of classic rock. Test answers will be shown at the end.
Classic rock is a section of rock music, which includes performers whose work is based invariably on the foundation of rock music. The classic musical instruments of a rock band are electric guitars, bass guitars, and drums. But this does not mean that all rock bands whose music is performed using these instruments fall into the category of classical rock.
Classical rock should include only those of them who do not make a pronounced stylistic tilt in any of the numerous rock directions. It should also be said that classical rock is by no means a mixture of classical music and rock, as one might think from the sound of the term.
There are quite a few performers who are classified as classical rock, and the issue of such a classification causes a lot of controversy among music critics. First of all, it must be said that the work of the same rock group at different periods of its history can be radically different. Team members change, times and fashion change, tools and thinking change. In one period of its existence, the group can play the purest rock, in another - completely different music.
Determining the stylistic affiliation of a rock artist is often not an easy problem. And this applies, of course, not only to classic rock. In which category, for example, can artists and bands such as The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Peter Gabriel or Metallica be placed? All of them easily fall under several stylistic templates at once, depending on the period of their creativity.
There are several grounds for classification. In accordance with them, the opinions of music critics are also divided. Someone thinks that determining belonging to the style should be according to the current repertoire of the performer. But this classification method is very shaky and unstable. In this case, what about those who, just a year after sticking a label on it, release an album with material that does not fit into the previous stylistic framework? Throw it into another category, forgetting about the past? This principle does not allow creating a clear system.
