The television series Gossip Girl is based on the book series of the same name by Cecily von Ziegesar. It was developed for television by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, and it aired on The CW network for six seasons from September 19, 2007, to December 17, 2012.

The story is told through the eyes of the unknown, all-knowing "Gossip Girl" (Kristen Bell), a blog pseudonym who narrates the series about privileged upper-class kids in Manhattan's Upper East Side (UES). The return of Serena van der Woodsen, a popular UES high schooler and "it girl," marks the start of this series.

Serena meets Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley), an aspiring writer from Brooklyn who becomes one of her primary love interests throughout the series, and they become friends. Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford), Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick), Jenny Humphrey (Taylor Momsen), Vanessa Abrams (Jessica Szohr), Rufus Humphrey (Matthew Settle) are some of the other prominent characters in the show.

Gossip Girl's popularity led to the creation of numerous foreign spin-offs. The program received a number of accolade nominations and won 18 Teen Choice Awards. On May 11, 2012, it was announced that Gossip Girl would be renewed for a sixth season by the CW. The final season, which included 10 episodes and aired between October 8 and December 17, 2012, concluded on December 17, 2012.

Gossip Girl, a sequel series created by the original executive producers Schwartz, Savage, and Safran and announced on July 8, 2021 on HBO Max, follows a new cast of characters from a different perspective in the same environment—similar to that of a shared universe.
