Cobra Kai is the sequel to the original The Karate Kid films, written and directed by Robert Mark Kamen.

Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence, played by Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, respectively, reprised their roles from the 1984 film The Karate Kid and its sequels in Cobra Kai. It follows Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) 34 years later as they continue the original Karate Kid saga, last seen in The Next Karate Kid (1994). In particular, it re-examines the "Miyagi-Verse" narrative from Johnny's perspective, his decision to reopen the Cobra Kai karate dojo, and his renewed rivalry with Daniel.

The second season of the Karate Kid spinoff, Cobra Kai, will premiere on YouTube. It features a cast that includes Haley Joel Osment, Xolo Maridueña, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Gianni DeCenzo, Peyton List, and Vanessa Rubio. Martin Kove and Thomas Ian Griffith will return as Daniel's parents from the films.

The series has an extensive viewership on both YouTube and Netflix and critical acclaim. The 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards nominated it for "Outstanding Comedy Series." In 2018, the first season was released on YouTube Red, with the second installment in 2019. Following the conclusion of production on season three, YouTube announced that scripted original programming would no longer be produced, leaving the show without a home.

In 2020, Netflix acquired the series and broadcasted the third season on January 1, 2021. The fourth season was renewed by Netflix in August 2021, ahead of its premiere.
