The Lion King is a live-action remake of the 1993 animated musical film The Lion King, produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released by Walt Disney Pictures. It is the 32ndDisney animated feature film and the fifth in what's known as the Disney Renaissance. Directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff (in their feature directing debuts), it was written by Irene Mecchi, Jonathan Roberts, and Linda Woolverton and was produced by Don Hahn. Its composers were Elton John and Tim Rice, with a soundtrack composed by Hans Zimmer.

It features a star-studded voice cast that includes Matthew Broderick, James Earl Jones, Jeremy Irons, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Moira Kelly, Nathan Lane, Ernie Sabella, Rowan Atkinson, Robert Guillaume with Whoopi Goldberg and Cheech Marin. The plot takes place in an African kingdom ruled by lions and was inspired by the Biblical tales of Joseph and Moses as well as William Shakespeare's Hamlet.
