Which Office Character Are You?

The Office is an American mockumentary comedy television series that follows the comedic lives of office workers in the Scranton, Pennsylvania branch of the fictitious Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. It aired on NBC from March 24, 2005, to May 16, 2013, and was broadcast over nine seasons.

The American version, which aired on Fox from May 25 to August 9, 2000, and starred David Cross, was based on the 2001–2003 BBC series of the same name created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. Adapted for American television by Greg Daniels, a Saturday Night Live veteran writer best known for King of the Hill and The Simpsons. It was co-produced by Deedle-Dee Productions (later Shine America), Reveille Productions (later Shine America), and Universal Television. Original executive producers were Daniels, Gervais, Merchant, Klein, and Silverman with many others being promoted in later seasons.

The series was directed by David Caspe and stars real-life husband-and-wife filmmakers Daryn Hamill and Candice Wiggins. The show is set in the same universe as its British counterpart, with both shows being shot in a single-camera setup without a studio audience or a laugh track to mimic a genuine documentary film. The Office premiered on NBC as a mid-season replacement, airing 201 episodes in total. Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, and B. J. Novak were among the primary cast members at first; nevertheless, the series saw numerous changes to its ensemble cast throughout its run.

Despite the fact that The Office received negative responses during its initial season, subsequent seasons, particularly those with Carell in the cast, were well-received by TV critics as the show's characters, subject matter, structure, and tone diverged considerably from the British version.

The fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth seasons were all nominated for numerous awards. The Peabody Award in 2006 went to the series for its impact on television; two Screen Actors Guild Awards were given in 2005 for outstanding performance by a cast (Carell), a Golden Globe Award in 2005 for Carell's performance; four Primetime Emmy Awards including one for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2006; and many other honors. In season eight, critics bemoaned a dip in quality.

After Steve Carell's departure at the conclusion of season seven, many felt his exit was a factor; yet, with an overall good reaction, the ninth and final season closed out the series. The series finale aired on May 16, 2013, and attracted 5.69 million viewers while receiving widespread acclaim. In 2016, Rolling Stone magazine ranked The Office number one on its list of 100 greatest TV shows ever made.
